Car Stereos: CD player for 2001 Corolla, spade connectors, toyota corolla

Question
Hi, I have a 2000/2001 Toyota Corolla fitted with the standard Tape/Radio player controlled by the in-built 'Console'.  I have been told that the only way I'll get a CD player in there is to install a changer in the boot.  There must be a way to install a bog standard CD player in there?  I managed to fit one in my Carina-e although I did have to cut the two blocks off and use spade connectors.  Any ideas?  Also, I'm based in the UK.  Thanks, Rob.

Answer
Hi Rob,

I'm sorry, but I wasn't able to find enough information about the design of your Corolla to give you a useful answer.  In the US, installing a replacement CD player in a 2000-2001 Corolla would be a fairly simple task.  I did find a link to a fascia adapter sold in the UK for the 2000+ Corolla.   The model number is FP-11-04; but some sites list it for the 02+ Corolla, and others for August 2000 and up.

If you can find a way to mount a CD player in the vehicle, then the wiring shouldn't be an insurmountable challenge.  A replacement CD player just needs a constant voltage source, a key-switched power source, and a ground (earth) connection, in addition to the speaker connections.  Even if an adapter harness isn't available for the factory radio plug, the power sources can be found elsewhere in the vehicle, and a ground connection is easy to find--you just have to attach it to chassis metal.  That just leaves the speaker wires, and they should all be present at the factory radio location--or, at worst, at a factory amplifier.

I'm sorry I can't give you more specific information, but I wasn't able to find any useful information about your vehicle's factory audio system.  Your best resource may be a local car audio retailer.

Good luck!
