Car Stereos: Sony CDX GT310 Wiring, sony cdx, sony manual

Question
Hi

I'm trying to install a Sony CDX GT310 radio into my car and I have a small problem regarding the wiring of it and need help.
Basically I'm trying to install it into a VW Bora which requires an aerial booster, but I don't know where to connect the blue power lead of the aerial booster. According to the sony manual there is a dark blue lead on the wiring harness which connects to the aerial booster but the only problem is that the dark blue lead on the wiring harness is connected at both ends as detailed in the sony manual and so I can't connect to this without cutting it.
Could you please explain to me where to connect the power lead of the aerial booster lead too. The sony manual if it helps can be found here "http://pdf.crse.com/manuals/2886505112.pdf" (see wiring diagram 3 and paragraph 3 for sony's details on the aerial booster).

Any help would be greatfully appreciated.
Thanks

Answer
Hi Chris,

I have to say that I'm not all that familiar with European vehicles and head unit wiring.  From looking at your installation manual, it appears that the Sony unit comes with ISO-connectors for the power and speaker wiring.  In the US, the included wire harness would just terminate in stripped wire ends, and we'd connect them to the appropriate vehicle adapter harness.  (ISO-type connections aren't used on many vehicle models in the US).

I'd suggest that you examine the factory radio plug, and see if there's a wire in place that matches the blue wire in the Sony harness.  If your Bora doesn't have anything in the plug that connects to the blue wire, then there's no harm in cutting it and using it for your booster.

If cutting the blue wire is not an option, then you can make your connection to the blue/white wire instead. The blue/white amp remote output works exactly the same as the blue antenna output, except that where the antenna output will power your booster only when the tuner is selected, the blue/white will keep the booster powered whenever the head unit is switched on.  That shouldn't hurt anything; as long as the aerial booster is working when you're listening to the radio, it doesn't matter if it's still powered when you're listening to a CD.

Hope this helps!
