Car Stereos: car speakers, pioneer car speakers, subaru impreza

Question
QUESTION: i have 6.5 inch pioneer car speakers installed in my subaru impreza. I have had them for almost 2 years and have never had a problem with them. A couple of days ago, the music started sounding really bad, like it was muffled. I am pretty sure that it is the midrange frequencies that are sounding really bad. Any suggestions on what to do to try and fix the problem? Thank you in advance.

ANSWER: If the problem is in both speakers, then it is probably some sort of issue with the radio itself.  Sometimes radios can get shorts in the EQ area, and they will make static noises or cancel out highs or lows or mids.  That would be my first guess.  If the sound is only being muffled in one speaker, there may be a wire that has pulled loose inside the speaker (from the main terminal to the tweeters inside).  Probably, the radio needs repaired or replaced.  Hope this helps, Scott

QUESTION: they are just the 2 speakers installed in the rear of the car. the front speakers sound fine no matter how high the volume is turned up, or how much the bass boost is turned up. I have an aftermarket pioneer premier deck that was professionally installed that is less than a year old. How do i fix the loose wire that is inside the speaker itself? Would i be better off buying a new set of speakers? Thanks in advance for all of your help.

Answer
Yeah, it definitely sounds like the speaker if the fronts are working fine.  It is pretty difficult to repair speakers, so I would recommend buying a new set of speakers.  Perhaps a better quality such as Alpine, Infinity, or Polk Audio.  These will definitely sound better and last longer.  Thanks for the clarification.  Good Luck
