Car Stereos: 2004 Impala CD Player, best cd players, dust and scratches

Question
My factory cd player seems to have some problems with certain cd's some of the time.  It'll eject the cd and say check cd.  Some of the cd's are brand new out of the jewel box.  Some times the cd player will read them and some times it won't.  Any advice.

Answer
Well, the best fix is to replace the unit.  Factory stereos from the mid-90s did not have the best cd players.  They are very susceptible to dust and scratches on the lens.  You can try to use a cd player cleaner, but it will probably show very little improvement if any.  The problem is the lens is scratched, and there is virtually no way to repair the lens.  Newer players stand up much better to dust and debris, and you should have no problems.  Hope this helps, Scott
