Car Stereos: 2000 Monte Carlo SS, monte carlo ss, rca outputs

Question
I have a 2000 monte carlo ss and I am installing subs that I pulled out of my old car. I got everything hooked up but I am  not getting any sound. It is a factory in dash. I checked the RCAs the power wire and everything. The amp lights up like it is getting power but no sound out of the sub. Does it have something to do with the factory dash because it has all of the computer reset controls in it? and can I change the factory in dash to aftermarket? will it mess with the built in computer?

Answer
Hi Tony,

It should work OK; the car's computer doesn't matter much in this particular case.

Where did you get RCA power?  Does the factory deck have them? If so, what were they hooked up to before?  If nothing, it might be a case of the factory deck needing to have its RCA outputs turned on (it'd be in the owner's manual if that's the case.)

Also, yes, you can replace the factory deck with an aftermarket one; you'll just need some factory integration hardware available at your local car stereo shop to maintain all of the car's functionality (which will depend on which system and whether or not you have onstar, etc.)
