Car Stereos: 2002 Chevy Tahoe non-bose with onstar., beep option, chevy tahoe

Question
Hi,

I have a 2002 Chevy Tahoe w/o Bose, with onstar.  However, my system does have the 8" sub and tweeters in the back.  I say it's non-bose b/c it doesn't have the bose logo on the speakers or deck (just in case this is relevant).

Issue: Just installed Kenwood KVT-819DVD, used aftermarket wiring harness.  Initially I got sound to all speakers but it suddenly just quit (no sound).  I checked everything, grounds, power to deck ect.  I couldn't find any issues with the wiring.  It works for a bit, then suddenly quits without any reason.

I do have the factory amplifier behind the glove box, and checked the orange power wire.  It shows +12v, so it seems like there is power at the amp.  I'm at a loss to explain this issue.

If this helps, my deck has the "beep" option when making selections.  When the sound does work, the beep appears intermittently (not constant).  I'm assuming something is wired wrong, but I'm at a loss.  Do I need something like the GMOS-03 or GMOS-01 harness?

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I'm extremely frustrated.

Cheers,
Josh

Answer
Hi Josh,

You will need the harness for your truck, but that is to restore your onstar and door chime functionality, not to make the speakers work.

The first thing I would try would be to disconnect the wires to one of the speakers, and hook up an old crappy speaker from somewhere to see if it has sound.  That way, you can rule out the deck as the source of your issues.

Then just move down the line.  If it cuts out on the other speaker, try connecting it to the speaker wire going into one of your speakers in one of the doors, etc.
