Car Stereos: Installing my Car Stereo- Dimming Wire, model ford, light orange

Question
Hey... I recently bought a CDX-GT11W head unit from the store and was
putting it in. I have a 1998 Ford Ranger XLT, i got everything done right, and
the head unit was working. However, when I would turn off the truck my dash
lights and side head lights (light orange, not the main lights) would stay on. I
bought a Scosche FDK106 Wiring Connector to simplify the process, but I
think it might have something to do with the Grounding Dimmer (Black with
White stripe). I connected this wire to the 12V Battery Constant (Yellow) and
this might have been a bad move because i might have needed to connect it
to the Black grounding wire. Before I take the thing apart again, do you think I
blew a fuse? Should I just connect this "Grounding Dimmer" wire to the
Ground wire? What should I do so that the head unit runs but my lights don't
stay on.... Thanks for your help

Answer
Hi John.

Im afraid that you got the wrong harness, the one that calls for your pick up its FD16B, FDK10B its only for factory premium sound systems and ford didnt make a 98 model ford ranger with premium sound.

But yeah you probably burned a fuse when you connected that black/white wire to 12V, that wire needs to be grounded and yeah you can get that ground from the radio's ground wire (black) try that and try changing that harness for the right one see if that fixes the problem.

Let me know.
