Car Stereos: query, radio cassette player, golf gttdi

Hello there. I just bought a 2000 golf gttdi here in Ireland(long way from you but worth asking anyway). There's a radio/cassette player with a seperate cd player in the dash above it. However when I put in a cd, hit the cd player button on radio it gives this error (CHK MAGAZINE) then 5 seconds later(CD ERROR) and throughs out cd. If it's a serious problem can you tell me whereI'd get the proper cd player to replace the one I have as I'm having bother on the net locating and I know that a VW garage will rip me off.

Sorry for the wait,
  run a lens cleaner through it and try some different types of CDs. Not all burnt cds will work. If that doesn't work try a local salvage yard for a replacement. You can probably have it installed by any mobile electronics stores. I don't know if they have a "Best Buy" there or a "Radio Shack"
