Car Stereos: 2001 Chrysler Sebring factory stereo not working, chrysler sebring lxi, 2001 chrysler sebring lxi

Question
Hi Danny,

I have a 2001 Chrysler Sebring LXi sedan (62,000 miles) with a factory cd/casette/am/fm stereo which also has a 4-disc in-dash CD changer.  Up until two weeks ago, I have had no problem with the stereo.  Recently I went out of town and left the car at an airport parking lot.  When I returned and started up the car, the stereo no longer worked.  The little lights on the bass/treble levels flash on and off, and there is a VERY faint static sound coming out of the speakers, but neither the radio nor the cd player work -- no matter whether the power push button is pushed on or off.  I am able to take out and insert cds into the changer, but they do not play.  None of the other buttons on the stereo unit have any effect -- it is just the same very faint static sound and the three flashing lights.

I have done a lot of searching on the internet but have yet to find an answer.  I did find a few other people with a similar issue, but theirs involved either extremely hot or cold weather affecting the stereo.  In my case, weather does not seem to be the issue -- the stereo does not work at all at any time, regardless of the temperature.

Thanks in advance for taking the time to review this!

Answer
Mr. Hill,
It sounds like the player is just bad. Stock units are usually not worth fixing. My suggestion is to find a cheap cd receiver that fits your car and get that installed. If you go to www.sounddomain.com they got some real good deals for ya. I really wish I could help you but when I work on a radio like yours I usually just rule it not worth fixing. Most stock radios cost $25-50 and it's the same or more to fix. That's all I can tell ya.
