Auto Racing: integra type r piston, acura integra gsr, high octane fuel

Question
QUESTION: i installed in new valvetrain and usdm itr piston in my 00 acura integra gsr. with the higher compression do i have to tune it and would i pass smog. also after the install i noticed my car goten weaker then before is that because i need a tune.

ANSWER: tuning, proper octane of fuel, and getting the computer to recognize the changes are probably keeping the engine's potential back further than when you started.  A change in cam timing may be necessary also.  I'd start when a good quality tune and high octane fuel, then consider a prom or easier, a flash programing "chip" that plugs into your OBD port.  Have a laptop?  You can diagnose the weak area, set up a more appropriate curve for performance, and get that car rolling.  Don't get discouraged, it's a common occurance in F.I. and carbed cars but with a little work you'll soon appreciate the difference.  It's just kind of a bummer after all that work you'd hope it's be an instant rocket.
Does your engine light come on?  If so email me the diagnostic code.  Any Oreily's, advance auto or autozone will scan for free.  Then email me what specifically what's doing and where is it failing you, off the line, midrange, etc.  Describe it as thorough as you can.  Is the engine pinging?  Thanks, Mike  P.S.  Hook up a timing light and see what your timing curve is doing.  Should 8-19 BTC at idle and go up to 35 at and above 2,500 rpm.  Mike

QUESTION: thanks for the info, im kinda out of money right now after the rebuild. i get back to u as soon as possible.

Answer
Yeh I know how it goes.  Gotta buy some milk once in a while instead of cookies.
Try using the highest octane gas you can find (if cenex is in your state, they are the best-no alcohol),  and clear your computer.  You can do this by disconnecting your negative battery terminal and just touching the positive cable either with a jumper or if it reaches the actual cable.  This will start your computer fresh, then drive it on the aggressive side and it may at least recognize the new parameters. I'll keep doing some checking and see what else I come up with.  Mike
