Auto Racing: 55 chevy p/u Holley carb, 55 chevy, power valve

Question
I talked to you earlier about some things with the holley carb. I replaced the power valve with a 3.5 and replaced the gaskets, but I don't have any change on my idle mixture screws. In fact, if I screw it all the way in, the engine actuall idles higher. I've been having trouble with it for a little while. The first 3.5 I put in worked fine, but I had backfire through the carb and then this problem started so I watched the dvd again and according to it, it was my power valve blown  so I got a new one, and still don't have anything on the idle mixture screw. I was wondering if there was something I missed. I tried calling holley, but I couldn't get anyone on the phone yesterday. Any help is appreciated.

Answer
If you have little to no control with the mixture screws it usually means your throttle plates are open too much.
