Auto Racing: how to get into racing, mechanical engineer, formula sae

Hello,
I am 16, and am thinking of possible ways to get into racing. I was planning to go to school to become a mechanical engineer and trying to get into the Formula SAE program or Formula Student. However i would rather be driving. And racing is my life i go to the drag strip every weekend, and watch Le-mans and Formula races constantly. Any way am just trying to figure out a good way to get into racing at a young age.
