Auto Racing: Clutches, hyundai tiburon, clutch replacement

Question
Tiburon 2004,clutch is totally shot clear back up to the duel fly wheel,6 speed,6 cylinder. Which they say also has to be replaced. Not cheap either. They handed me a bag of burnt shredded whatever? Trying to understand why this is so bad and how to stop it from happening again? The job is going to run around 1884.38 through the car dealer. maybe a little less at a private repair place. My car he had been driving. What about a racing clutch? My 30 year old son says he was feathering the clutch? Thanks Debbie

Answer
There are several options available for your clutch replacement. I have personal experience with the following company and their clutches; this one has worked well for my purposes.

I would get this for the flywheel replacement also

It sounds to me like your son needs to learn how to drive, I am assuming the shreds where the griping compound on the clutch. It would take a lot of driving like an amateur to destroy it like that. Tell him to stop doing burnouts in your car and the problem should go away.
