Auto Racing: 350, speed o motive, main bearing

Question
hello, i am building a sbc 350. i have a 4 bolt main block ,and thats about it, i would like it to have about 350hp and will be used mainly on the street, i was wondering if you had any reccomendations for parts combos, i am thinking about picking up a set of 202 heads at a swap meet, or if you know of any web sites with info?, thanks mike

Answer
Before you get to involved have the block checked out by a machine shop. Sonic test the walls, check for bore taper and main bearing bore alignment. If the block checks out ok you can then think about internals. There are many good engine kits available on the market that will save you a lot of time and heartache because they are put together as a matched set. You can get these kits from Doug Herbert, Scoginn and Dickey or Speed-o-motive in Cal. Most kits will include crank, rods, pistons, rings, bearing kit, gasket set as well as cam & lifters and timing chain. Swap meet heads are like russian roulette. You can get a set of S/R torquers for the same price it would cost you to refurbish used heads. Plus you don't have to worry about cracks and rust.

Or you could just buy a crate motor from Chevrolet that has a full warranty.
