Auto Racing: 1994 Mustang GT Swap, mustang cobra, mustang gt

Question
QUESTION: Hey i live in the Lee's Summit MO and i saw a response that said you lived in Kansas which isn't too far away from me. I'm really looking at swapping a 4.6L Mustang Cobra engine in my 94 GT mostly to get the DOHC engine but also the extra intake from the cobra engine. I was wondering if you could help me out with someplace local that would do such a swap for as little money as possible. Thanks

ANSWER: Daniel-

Well...a Cobra engine swap isn't going to be cheap, really.  It can be done for a reasonable cost but, especially when you're buying the motor, it's not what I'd call cheap.  A good place to call would be MC Racing.  If they've still got a website, I think it's gomcracing.com.  They do good work for a fair price.  They're located in Mission, KS which is around 15 minutes away from me (I live in northern Overland Park) so it's probably 30-45 minutes from Lee's Summit.  If Excessive Motorsports is still around they could probably do it too.  They used be (and may still be) in Blue Springs, but generally their labor costs were pretty high and from what I've heard they tend to drag their feet a little bit.  Hope this helps.

QUESTION: Thanks for your input. Do you think one of these places if they still are around could do it for around 7-8 grand because thats fairly cheap and thats about what im willing to spend.

Answer
Daniel-

Well I know MC Racing is still around, and from the looks of their website they may have grown a bit.  You'd have to call them to get a price quote, but I think $7-$8K would cover a Cobra motor swap provided the motor wasn't brand new from Ford.  MC might even be able to track a used motor down for you...who knows?  If memory serves me, swaps usually run you a couple thousand dollars depending on the complexity.  A GT-Cobra motor swap is probably a 4 on a scale of 1-10 in terms of difficulty.  From what I've heard Matt and Chris (the guys who started MC Racing) sold the shop to some new owners a few years ago and I don't know who's running it now, so check in with them and ask a lot of questions.  If they seem to know their stuff and you're comfortable having them do the swap, that's where I'd get it done.  Hope this helps.
