Auto Racing: Mustang, mil eliminators, o2 sensors
QuestionI have a 97' 3.8l mustang, with 120,000K, i was wanting to add a dual exhaust,
but i noticed o2 sensors before my cats, and after my cats, i want to get rid of
my cats too, so can i bust out my cats and not worry about the 2nd pair of
sensors after my cats?
AnswerAndrew-
The problem there is that the cats help keep the O2 sensors at operating temperature. Sometimes when you remove the cats the sensors don't get hot enough and can cause a check engine light or even cause the engine to run rich. You can pick up a set of wiring pieces called MIL eliminators that will take care of the check engine light, but you still may have problems with the car running rich. It's not a gaurantee since it doesn't happen to every car, but it's definitely something to consider before you modify the exhaust. Hope this helps.
