Auto Racing: Acceleration Gets Better with Time?, mitsubishi eclipse, eclipse car

Question
I was reading Mar 07 Car and Driver's long term review of, I want to say Mitsubishi Eclipse.  Car was now 18 months and 40,000 miles older.  The zero to 60 mph improved from, i can't recall exact amount, but 6.2 seconds to 6.0 seconds.  Is it common for cars to get faster or better gas mileage as they get older?  If so, when would the common peak time be.  The article did not mention any car modifications that might explain the improvement.

Answer
I honestly can’t explain when it "peaks" but what is happening is the ECU is learning your driving patterns and adapting to it. If you granny it around it would learn a more efficient fuel plot, if you get on it hard a lot it will learn a more aggressive profile.
