Auto Racing: beginer needing help, tuner magazine, blow off valve

hey i am 17 this year and will soon be getting a car, i want to be able to start to build up a drag racer, the problem is, i dont no a thing about cars, sept how to drive them, what is the best way to start learnin about how cars work, how to build them and how to upgrade them. cheers.

also i have seen a couple of cars, and when they change geers, they give off a loud hissing sound, what makes it do that, its way cool

The best thing you could do is go hang around at a local drag strip and make some friends that have an idea of what they are doing. Don’t buy in to peoples BS either odds are if they don’t have much done to their car they really don’t have an idea. Anyone can recite stuff they read in a tuner magazine, but hands on experience is what counts. The noise you are referring to is most likely a blow off valve (BOV), from a turbo charger. There are people who run turbo sound simulators that just give the sound out of an electric box, which is extremely tacky in my opinion.

Chances are also good that there is some sort of online community for your car, if you happen to have some of the more popular makes. Find a reputable forum and search through its contents and posts for your answers before you start asking questions, someone else has asked the same questions before I am sure.
