Auto Racing: Cam upgrade in stock 82 Mustang, comp cams, car transmission

Question
I just purchased a 1982 mustang 5.0L HO and I am going to pull the engine, and while it is out I want to put in a new camshaft. I am going to be drag racing this car on the weekends and need a good cam to put in it. I need to know what is a good mid price range ($250-350) Cam to put into my car. it is totally stock and i dont want to blow the motor too soon.

Answer
Tony-

This is a little beyond my reach since there are probably a hundred different cams you can choose from.  Back when my car was naturally aspirated, I ran a mild hydraulic flat tappet from the Comp Cams Xtreme Energy line (the cam was originally designed for a 351W, but they fit in 5.0HO blocks as well) that I liked a lot.  Hop online and go to Comp Cams' website and check out their tech support service.  From what I've seen, it's superb and they can help you pick out what you want and need based on other factors in the car (transmission, weight, rear end gear, etc.).  Hope this helps.
