Auto Racing: the best transmissions?, double pumper, engine management system

Question
what type of program would i need to get an EFI tuned?

i was thinking to go short term and pondering over a new carb with an electric choke (or just a nonmaual choke). is there a limit to the size that i would need or could i just get the biggest thing they offer. and which company should i go with.

additionally, i was wodering if there is such a thing as too much air intake. i was pondering on gerryrigging a  relatively humongous  filtered air intake with 2 tubes that ran straight to the radiator (or to hood scoops). i'm thinking like 6-10" plastic/rubber tubes here, maybe even bigger. would this help the engine work better, or do i need to worry about back pressure or small birds or something.

thanks for your time and effort.

Answer
Richard-

Tuning software will come with any engine management system you get.  Some of it easier than others to use, but you have to have a decent idea of what you're doing with all of them.  For the carb, yes, you can go too big.  You didn't mention what kind of motor you have, but if it's something like a 350 (you said you have a Chevy, right?) then I certainly wouldn't go any bigger than 750cfm...and that'd pushing it.  You could slap on a Holley 650cfm double pumper and it'd run great.  Carbs are a definite instance of bigger not always being better.  The air intake thing...it's a mixed bag.  Yes, an engine can get too much air.  However it doesn't work like how you're thinking.  The setup you've got in mind really won't do much.  You *might* manage 10hp out of that.  Cold air and ram air kits are designed differently than just tubes and filters.  They take things like air velocity and turbulence into account.  Hope this helps.
