Auto Racing: K&N, castrol syntec, quality product line

Question
I've been told by a few friends that K&N intake fillters, will decrease your hp gain. Does that make any sense...not to me!
I know that your not gona gain 20 hp by putting an air intake on a fairlly new car, only if you put it on a old car, cause the intake system of the new cars is a lot beter than the old ones.
Anyway, I drive a 2004 subaru WRX, and I got a short ram intake..will it make it loose hp or gain like 5 or 6 hp, like I red elswere?

Thanks in advance

Sam

Answer
Hi Sam.

The K&N Line of free flow air filters is a very high quality product line.  Not only will you gain a couple of HP, depending upon your driving style, you might save a dab of gas too.

Automotive engines rely on a very precise mixture of air and gas to create the power they make. If you increase the airflow, your modern fuel injection system will increase the amount of gas it requires, keeping that mixture near perfect.

The WRX is a great little car, I have a friend who is fielding a pro road racing team of them. They're tough, fast, and they corner quite well.

Here's another thing to consider. Start using synthetic oil in every part of the car, in the engine, transaxle, and the rear differential. Synthetics lubricate much better, don't break down like petroleum oils do, and they are much more resistant to heat . Your engine and tranny will run cooler, and perform better.  I don't recommend Mobil 1, but Castrol Syntec, and Valvoline Synthetic are good ones. I use Amzoil my self and for racing , recommend Royal Purple or RedLine.

Good luck with the WRX, I'd like to drive one some day
