Auto Racing: Cold air intake installation options, subaru imprezza, cold air intake

Question
Dear Steve,
While it say's your expertiese is in american car's, we thought this was a pretty general engine mod and are hoping you can help us with. We are modifiying a 02' subaru imprezza 2.5 and are installing a new cold air intake system and were woundering if we should connect it to our stock air box w/k&n air filter, or if we should remove the air box altogether? If you think we should get rid of the oem air box, what should we put in its place? Thank you for your time, hope to hear from you soon!

Most good cold air kits will come so you actually have to scrap the factory air box and they're meant to be mounted with that in mind.  The factory box is just an air silencer...it muffles the sound air is made when it's sucked into the air filter (which is hardly audible inside the car anyway).  Actually, since fuel injection's rise to popularity, people have been tearing off factory air silencers just to get a few extra horses.  I'd ditch the box in favor of a quality cold air kit with a conical filter.  Hope this helps.
