NASCAR Racing: last wk at talledega, fuel mileage, talledega

Question
I have watched nascar for quite a few years now.Can someone please explain to me why jimmie j was allowed to hold in the rear of the pack all day and with less than 20 laps to go he decides to make his move.I was not at this particular race but found it to be very frustrating nascar allowed him to do this.Jeff gordon, and mark martin were out there racing knowing full well that at anytime they could be caught up in the big wreck. To me as a spectator I am paying to see these guys race for the championship, allowing the 48 team to do what they did last week is not what Im looking for when paying for a race and I do not agree the championship is won ,but is handed to them when these things take place.Would like to also no if this is how nascar plans to handle things in the future.Thank you for your time   Mike

Answer
There are no rules against it. I agree that it's an incredibly annoying thing to see done, but it happens. It's a strategy the same way fuel mileage is a strategy. I think 95% of people watching thought it was ridiculous, but there isn't a rule against that at all. Don't forsee one coming down the line anytime soon either.
