NASCAR Racing: speed limit, pit road, practice time

what is the speed limit on pit road?  i was just wondering out of curiosity.

Hi Karyn,

  It varies from track to track. This past weekend at California the pace speed was around 65 mph...and they are given a limit of 5 mph over...so about 65-70 mph. In Bristol though it is severely reduced to about 30 or 40 something mph.
  So it all depends on the track size. The indivdual drivers gauage it on the tachometer.  For example, this past weekend i heard a spotter say 4000 in 2nd...so the driver knows that he had to be in the 4000 range in 2nd gear to equal about 65-70 mph. And they use the practice time before each race to figure the speeds and rpms.
