NASCAR Racing: Vehicle Manufacturers?, ford chevy, dodge charger

Question
QUESTION: I know there are Fords, Chevys, Dodge and Toyotas racing.  My question is how much of that vehicle is actually Ford, Chevy, Dodge Toyota etc?  The motors, frame and most other parts seem to be standard racing equipment.  Is any part actually made b the company?
Thanks!!

ANSWER: No part is actually made by the company. The engines aren't really even a Ford, Chevy, Dodge, or Toyota motor. They are built in the teams shops using technology and resources from the company, but the company doesn't actually build them. I know with the old cars (used until the end of 2007), the manufactuors were required to send their templates to NASCAR to be approved for racing, thats why the Dodge Charger went from having a shaped nose in 2005 and 2006 to having a more sleek smooth nose in 2007. With the new car (Car of Tomorrow), I do not believe that the manufactuors have to submit their car for approval seeing as all four makes are basically the same exact cars with the exception of the light decals and rear windows. Do not quote me on that, but I have not heard anything about the manufactuors having to submit their cars for approval for 2008 seeing as the COT's are all the same, I think NASCAR designed them and if any changes are made it will be by NASCAR.

---------- FOLLOW-UP ----------

QUESTION: What technology and resources are used?  Are the motors and/or other parts designed by the manufacturers and then built by the teams?  Can it be assumed that on a Ford racer some parts are built to Ford specs?  Thanks!!

Answer
I can't say I know the full truth behind your follow up question, but I'm pretty sure the manufacturer does design and put forth a lot of technology and resource towards building parts for the cars. It would only make sense that they be allowed to have something to do with it or else there probably wouldn't be car manufacturers in NASCAR, and NASCAR would actually be the manufacturer. I hope that answers your question, because I do not know much about building the cars, the specs, and anything mechanical in NASCAR.
