BMW Repair: Transmission on 2002 325i BMW, 325i bmw, failsafe mode

Question
Does this vehicle not have a warning light on it when it begins leaking transmission fluid?  No light came on in my vehicle and after losing a lot of fluid on the highway the transmission went and I now have to have it rebuilt.

If it is an electronic transmission with the switch next to the selector then it has a failsafe mode that puts you into 3rd gear and reverse only. It will only do this with the warning light on.

There is no warning indicator specifically for fluid level.

Be vary wary of a diagnosis to completely rebuild it.

Depending on weather it is the front seal leaking, or from the sump, repair the leak,change the fluid and filter then try it.

Also consider a 2nd hand unit as apposed to a "rebuild", lots chaaper.
