BMW Repair: BMW 318i, bmw 318i e46, antifreeze coolant

Question
I have a BMW 318i E46 N-series year of manufacture is 2004.

How often do you need to replace the fuel filter?. My mechanic says i need to change it each time i service but other people say replacement should be once in a lifetime. Please advice if it is right to replace with every service done.

Answer
Good question,

If your mechanic is following the service schedule, your car should get 1st,an oil service, then an inspection 1 service, then an inspection 2 service.

The fuel filter is replaced on the inspection 2 service only! usually about every 40,000 miles, roughly.
Every 24 months the brake fluid gets changed,as it absorbs moisture(hygroscopic), and the antifreeze(coolant) every 2 years.

hope that helps
