BMW Repair: BMW 2006 325i- gasket, bmw 2006, head gasket

Question
I just bought my BMW into have the brake fluid flushed and changed(I have a maintenance contract so there was no charge for that). I was having trouble with acceleration and speed so I asked them to check it out. They found a gasket (not sure if it was the head gasket) needed to be replaced and they quoted me $7,200.00. I was so shocked I forgot most of what the repairamn said. I told him I would pick up the car Monday after other minor repairs were done and I didn't want anything further done to the car. i went on line and noticed that the gasket part was about $150-200- so doesit really take $7,000 in labor to repair this? Do you have any suggestions on where I can go in the Lamorinda, CA area? I really love my car, can't afford to sell it and can't afford $7,200 bill. Thank you!

Answer
Something doesn't sound right Toni.

Head gasket is the most expensive gasket to replace.  However, for a 6 cylinder engine, that's very high.

Perhaps they're recommending changing out the engine, or something along that line.

I'd suggest you take a look at what the dealer actually says on the write-up, and get back to me.
