BMW Repair: tranny bmw 323ci, 2000 bmw 323ci, bmw 323ci

Question
hello mr kingery im hoping maybe you can shed some light on
this for me..im trying to figure if im being played for as
fool with an independent repair shop.. i have 2000 bmw 323ci
with AFTERMARKET WARRANTY, i needeed drive shaft center
bearing replaced which warranty covered anyhow after the
work was complete the owner called me and said that he found
some issues with my tranny and he needs my permissin to tear
down .i told him ok i have the warranty which covers the
tranny. been there for 2 weeks now still diagnosing and the
last phone call i made to them they told me that they had to
order special pair of pliers to finish dismantling the
tranny.. is there such a thing as special pliers needed for
this??  im so confused what to do I WANT SO MUCH FOR THEM
JUST TO PUT THE CAR BACK TOGETHER AGAIN OR FOR ME  TO TAKE
IT BMW, BUT I CANT TRANNYS OUT OF CAR..

Answer
Yes, there can be special pliers to remove some of the retainers around the gears, so I don't think that part is pure bunk.

However, any decent shop should be able to tell you when you can get it back, and give you assurances.  If these guys can't, then start to ratchet it up higher.....if it's an independant shop, contact the owner, and if not satisfied, the BBB. If it's a chain, contact the highest manager at the store, then work your way up.

Good luck.
