BMW Repair: Power windows/sunroof dead, 1985 bmw 535i, bmw 535i

Question
Hi, I just bought a 1985 BMW 535i in which the windows and
sunroof don't work. All fuses seem good and the sunroof motor
can be heard making noise when the button is pushed.
Apparently, they both went out at the same time. We can't even
find which fuse relates to the windows though..

Answer
Sorry but only a quick answer available at the moment as I just started a new job.

The windows are controlled by a reset button, find that somewhere within reach of the driver,  and push it.

If the sunroof motor is clicking then you are 95% there.

There should be a cover under the motor, remove it and you will see the motor.

If the roof hasnt been opened in a while the seals are probably dry.

On the motor there is a large nut. Find a way to turn it a little clockwise, give the back of the sunroof a "karate chop" from the top and it will start to move again.

If you can get it open , lubricate the seals with vasaline.

Good Luck

Tony
