BMW Repair: 1995 BMW 325is window (US), 1995 bmw 325is, bmw 325is

Question
QUESTION: Hi there,

Drivers side window: Will not go up all the way and leaves a 1/4 inch gap at the top. There is a gap on the side the window where someone could easily fit their hand through window glass and door frame?? Is this a regulator or motor problem? Door sensor? Please help!!!!

ANSWER: Can't tell if motor or regulator from the description.

One test is to apply force downward on the window AS IT STARTS TO GO UP FROM THE DOOR...DO NOT GET ANYWHERE CLOSE TO BEING ABLE TO PINCH YOUR HAND BETWEEN THE WINDOW AND FRAME!!!!

Compare it to the amount of force on the passenger side.  If they are similar, it's likely the regulator.  If much weaker, it's likely the motor.

Odds are it's the regulator, or something fell and got caught.  Remove the interior door panel and check.

QUESTION: How easy is it to fix/ replace motor or regulator? What is the generic price for both of these?

I'm looking to avoid the dealership and high labor costs.

Thanks!

Thanks!

Answer
Both are doable, but take some time.  If you can change your own oil and change your spark plugs, you can do this.  (If not, don't attempt.)

I'd go to these guys for parts.  They're good, fair priced, and they have your window motor, your regulator, AND A REGULATOR REPAIR KIT.  (I had a front window on a '92 325 go bad, and it just needed the regulator kit).
