BMW Repair: 1995 318i bmw engine noise, 318i bmw, bmw engine

Question
HI
95 318i 180K 5 speed
I put on new motor mounts (which were bad..down to metal) and a  new radiator (upper hose broke off with part o the coupling..car did not have a chance to over heat, I was parking as it happened) I also got new battery. We;l  I go to start the car and the engine is jumping, knocking, like before I put on the motor mounts....the noise softens as it gets warm, , but still, clanging/knocking noise. When I go to first gear to get going, car stalls and cuts off.  so right now I can't drive the car OH! MY, what could this be?....I am so stressed out, I wasn't having any issues. car was driving fine except for a little knocking and hesitation on acceleration.
could it be knock sensors, water getting to a cylinder, ect.  (I read a post on that, everyone says something different). IS THIS   MAJOR?  Note: I do not have any smoking or coolant mixing with oils.
Thanks for your help! Sondra"

Answer
Doesn't sound major.  Sounds more like you have a spark plug not hooked up, or something similar.

If the car ran well before, and if all you changed were motor mounts and radiator, there is nothing seriously wrong in the engine.

Each cylinder needs spark, fuel, and air.  Air is a given in your situation.  Spark and Fuel are the two variables that may not be happening.  Check your spark plug wiring.  You may have also have a fuel injector plug bad or off.

You may also have accidentally disconnected a knock sensor, or something similar, that is causing your problem.

Don't panic.  Check things out one at a time. It's likely something very simple.
