Question
QUESTION: Hi Tony
my ca 180K 5 speed.-just replaced motor mounts...now my car is experiencing hesitate on aceleration 1st to 2nd and sometimes in 3rd..4 is ok and 5th gear.  what could be causing this.. Someone told me it could be an aceleration cable...does that make sense or could it be  the intake bellow flow sensor.

your help really helps.. Im in California area

ANSWER: I lived in the bay area for 30 years, worked for most of the dealers, anyway back to your car.

Remove the big black hose between the air filter housing and the air flow meter and check it carefully. When the engine was jacked up to replace the mounts it probably tore this hose. Its the hose thats about 4 inches in diameter(only 1 there) Temp repair it with black tape and get a new one.

QUESTION: HI Tony, thank you so much...I will check this out right away...but If I may, I just encountered another issue which still may be related.
radiator coupling broke (upper hose connects to it)...so I put in a whole new radiator and got a new battery this weekend. I go to start the car and the engine i jumping, knocking, sounds loud....the noise softens, but still, clanging/knocking noise. When I go to first gear to get going, car stalls and cuts off.  OH! MY, now what is it....I am so stressed out, I wasn't having any issues.
could it be knock sensors, water getting to a cylinder, ect.  (I read a post on that). IS THIS   MAJOR?
Thanks for your help! Sondra

Answer
Ok, calm down.
I agree with you that it all sounds related to the engine mount repairs.

We need firstly to look at the big picture of things.

If you paid a garage to replace the mounts, then the liability for these repairs is down to THEM!

Lifting the engine will stretch the hoses and crack the upper radiator coupling.

If you did it yourself or a friend there is still hope that it is nothing major, ASSUMING the engine never got hot enough to get into the red and boiled over.

noisy or not, does the temperature stay normal? if so the "new noises" may just be the fan shroud being hit by the fan itself, easy to do,done it myself.

Make sure the shroud is clipped down correctly top and bottom, sitting in its related holes.

Hopefully it was bled properly after the rad replacement.

Do the before mentioned repair to the big hose that is letting in unregistered air because that will make the engine run terribly.

let me know how you get on, relax we will get there in the end.
