BMW Repair: Roaring noise coming from rear wheels, rear wheel bearings, rear wheels

Question
Don,First let me apologize for not having the VIN handy. I just repaired the AC on this vehicle and the customer was so pleasedhe tipped me for the job. He has a 1996 328i with 155000 miles. I took the vehicle for a repair followup drive and noticed a pronounced roar and a "waddle" till the tires warmed a bit. I wonder if it is the dynamic balance for the tires or possibly Alan axle bearing. I did not have time to check fluid levels in the differential. I would have furnished the VIN but he had to return home unexpectly. He wants me to do his work but I am trying to stay away from euro models. It is a blast to drive just the same except for th e roar.

Answer
Depending on where the noise is coming from depends on the repair. If when you are driving the noise is more pronounced while turning or having the steering wheel slightly turned one way or another. If turning right and the noise is louder than the straight ahead position chance eare a right front  wheel bearing if it is when turning left it is the left. This is pretty much the same for checking the rear wheel bearings except the noise is more in the rear of the car.
