BMW Repair: code 227 and 228, mass air meter, upper radiator hose

Question
Don, Iam working on a 1999 bmw 323i E46 with 171k,the car is bucking and it has a rough idle at times! The engine light was on so I put my snap-on scan tool on the car and received code 227 and 228 bank 1 and 2 o2 devitation?? The scan tool wouldn't allow me to get alot of information.I think these codes mean that bank 1 and 2 are running lean? Now here is a little twist that I noticed in a visual inspection under the hood. The vehicle had a coolant leak at the upper radiator hose by the airbox.I removed the plastic duck work going into airbox and found coolant on the inside? I know that this might be a long shot but could this coolant get past the air filter and effect the mass air meter? The thing is I didn't check the air filter because I thought of this after the car was gone.Is there any common problems with these 2 codes?

Thanks for all your help, Eric

Answer
I really can't say if this is a common problem although it is worth checking.Coolant doesn't mix well with exhaust gases and o2 sensors, not to mention what it does to a cat.I gather you cleared the codes. If so and it comes back with the same codes it would be worth checking out.I'm not sure which Snapon scan tool you have,I have a Modis with domestic, asian and the European cards as well.To get into BMW ecm you do need a special connector the round one.If you have  what they call the"brick",I have a cartridge and connecter that are for BMW if your interested.
