BMW Repair: coolant, coolant temp, coolant level

today my coolant level light came on shortly followed by the coolant temp light.then the needle went right into the red

Answer
Means your engine overheated.  Could be anything from a broken belt to a bad thermostat to a failed waterpump to a blown headgasket.

I hope you shut it down right away.  The longer you ran it this way (and it's measured in single minutes), the more likely there is serious damage.
