BMW Repair: 94 BMW 325i crankcase blowby, mass air flow sensor, oil filler cap

Question
I have a 1994 325i with a 2.5L engine that has 167K miles on it and it has excessive blowby. Oil is sometimes coming in the air tube from the two vacumn lines (one from the PCV valve and one from the side of the block)and is sprayed on the mass air flow sensor.  The engine runs strong and does not miss at all and does not smoke.  Is there any type of pressure relief valve on this year BMW as I know the later 1995 models have one under the throttle body? Also since the engine runs strong would it hurt to try and releive some of the blowby by putting a breather type oil filler cap on the engine to help provide more ventillation for it. I have been trying to find a schematic which shows the whole crankcase ventilation system. Any help or thoughts would be much appreciated and I do not mind adding something to help with the blowby I just do not want to get into an engine rebuild as it does run really, really strong.  Thanks, George

Answer
Sorry but there is only one fix for blow by.You will need to do a compression test then a cylinder leak down test. This will tell you exactly what is wrong wether it is rings or valves. You also need to have ALL the rubber hoses looked at for cracking and if they are hard when you squeeze them as well.BMW's do not have PCV valves. They are what they call a closed system.Any oil seal that is leaking is causing oil to be sucked into the intake. And is causing an unmeasured air leak so the AFM will not be working as it should.
So all in all,to fix your blowby problem is to actually find out why and where.Seals, hoses or rings, with that amount of mileage it maybe time for an overhaul.
