BMW Repair: 88 BMW 735i w/5speed manual, bmw 735i, steep incline

Question
Hi Don,

The engine stumbles / hesitates when you first start to depress the accelerator, can make backing out of the garage a challenge since it is on a steep incline.
Has new catalytic converter from BMW, I changed it a year earlier with an aftermarket unit that was terrible(rattled and resonated in the cabin) and that is when I first noticed the hesitation, but it has gotten worse since the first new cat. I thought it might improve with the new cat from BMW but did not. Otherwise car is running pretty well, idle typical of M30 motor steady but not silky smooth. Once rolling or above idle excellerates smoothly.

Answer
Have you checked your fuel pressure?Check to make sure both pumps are working, the pump that is external will make the car so that it runs but if the intank pump isn't working you'll have the stumble that you are talking about and it will still run so you wouldn't think there was a problem. So check the intank pump to make sure it works.
