BMW Repair: bmw 325sei E36, mechanical portions, correct key

Question
my central locking system has malfunctioned, I have access to the car but the trunk has remained locked and does not respond on the key. Any ideas of how to open the trunk?

the electrical and mechanical portions of the lock are separate. make sure you are using the master key and not the valet key. I forget which but has a groove in the center of the key and one does not. the outside groves will look the same. Ironically the central locking fault is very likely to be frayed wires in the harness boot going to the trunk lid. if the correct key fails this could get ugly if a locksmith can't get you in.
