Question
QUESTION: I HAVE A 323CI AND THE STARTER WILL NOT CRANK!!! AT FIRST I THOUGHT IT WAS THE BATTERY BUT ALL THE ELECTRICAL SEEM TO WORK FINE. I EVEN HEARD THE FUEL PUMP WORKING.  I WENT AHEAD AND TRY TO JUMP START THE CAR ANYWAYS BUT NOTHING HAPPENED.  I CHECKED ALL THE FUSES ON THE GLOVE COMPARTMENT AND ALL OF THEM ARE OKAY!!!!   MY CAR IS A STICK SO I WAS THINKING  IT IS THE CLUTCH PEDAL SAFETY SWITCH THAT MIGHT HAVE GONE OUT. DO U ANY OTHER RELAYS THAT I COULD CHECK AND IF SO WHERE??? HOW DO U CHECK THE CLUTCH SAFETY PEDAL SWITCH??? ALSO DO U KNOW OF ANY OTHER PROBLEMS WHY MY CAR WON'T CRANK????

ANSWER: try a different key, it is most common fix for no crank

QUESTION: WELL I reprogrammed the key i have and it works fine. all the buttons on the key work.  I am going to buy a new key on monday at the dealer. i was wondering if there is anything else i can do to check if my key is functional. I don't have to waste 100  dollars on a new key!! also are there any other suggestions if the car does not crank?? i don't have an alarm and i checked the voltage on the battery with the o.b.c.  and it read 131.

Answer
I was hoping you had another key. May b you should look at the spending of the $100 as needed to be done. You should have an extra. And it may fix the problem. Even if remote un/locks the car it still may not start it. If battery voltage was the problem you would have the cluster do dim when trying to start and the starter would probably click. Let me know what the new key does and we will go from there. Just to let you know I've seen 2 bmw starters go bad. Both failed gradually, so I don't think thats it.
