BMW Repair: ABS - can I drive without it?, abs light, brake components

Question
My ABS light has been on for a couple of weeks. The manual said it was for better stopping, but didn't say it was critical. Now my brake pad light just came on. This might be related to the ABS???? Can I just get new brakes and bypass fixing the ABS right now, or will I have to fix the ABS when I take it to the shop to replace the brakes?

Answer
Sumner, Brakes are a safety issue. They are paramount for automotive safety. Antilock brakes are important for your car to achieve the smallest stopping distance and prevent your brakes from wheel lock and skidding when full pedal pressure is applied (panic stopping). Replace your worn brake components in your next service and have the faults read out and diagnosed. I my opinion you don't have any business starting if you can stop safety. If you have the means, please have this taken care of for your sake and for others on the road.
