BMW Repair: A/C Temperature Sensor, bmw vin, 323i bmw

Question
I have a 1999 323i BMW vin xkc56502,initially it ran hot and blew an expansion tank,I replaced it,faulty t'stat, also replaced it. A/C not cooling at all blows hot air. Auxillary fan wasn't working, was told to replace the aux'fan sensor at the bottom of the radiator hose,I did the fan works now.My question is could the A/C temp. sensor cause the A/C not to work and if so where can I locate this possible culprit Thanks so much for all the help you professional give out, I've learned so much from this site.

Answer
Cleat the Outside temp sensor which I assume you are speaking of in the front bumper support is not responsible for loss of A/C on E46 cars as far as I know. On E39 five series is a different story. A temp sensor that reads -40F degrees will cause the A/C compressor not to engage. To test this remove the connector from the Outside temp sensor and put a jumper between the two pins and short the wires. This should make the cluster read +122F degrees and allow the Compressor to operate if it has an effect on E46 compressor engagement. The early Aux fan's are notoriously bad. They are intermittently faulty. Make sure your is working consistently. Is the A/C compressor clutch engaging?
