BMW Repair: truck button not working, release button, trunk release

Hi-  The trunk release button on the inside of the car does not open the trunk.  The remote on the key will open the trunk but not the button on the inside of the car.  How the heck do you even get in to look at the wiring?  I removed the case near the steering column and couldn't get in as well as the hood release lever and the plastic case around that but still couldn't get access to the trunk release button.

Athena, make sure the hotel switch in the glove box is set to unlock. It has a picture of a car I believe. With the car unlocked (use your central locking button in center console). Can you press the outside trunk release button on the trunk. What happens? Check fuses in glove box.
