BMW Repair: Z3 starting problem, volt meter, starter motor

Question
On our 1997 Z3, from a fully charged battery, I trie to start the car but I hear clicking sound. the battery is down to 5-10 volts measured with a volt meter. After recharge the same thing occurs. This happens even with jump cables connected to our 528e. The battery is believed in good condition.

Answer
Randy, Do you have 12 Volts at the starter? If you do I would try replacing the starter. The clicking noise is usually due to Under voltage. The solenoid will work and the pinion will engauge, but there isn't enough voltage to turn the starter motor.
