BMW Repair: bmw 530d 2001 saloon 139,000 miles with service history, engine management system, fuel rail

Question
I have a 2001 530d which I bought from a garage in dublin. 3 weeks ago I was travelling to maynooth and all the lights came on on the dash and the engine cut out. By the way there is 139,000 miles on the clock. I stopped the car and tried to turn the engine over. It would not start and after the third try the yellow coyle light would not go off after the required interval. Also, on a number of occasions the a significant amount of black smoke blew out of the exhaust. The car was taken to where I purchased the car and three weeks later I eventually got the car back. They replaced a fuel rail pressure sensor and said that the power was also down because of a problem with air intake. I don't know how they resolved that problem. anyway, I have the car back 2 days and last night the car was difficult to start and a large amount of smoke came out of it again. The power also seems a bit low on it in comparison to when I first bought it. I'm very concerned that they have not solved the problem and that the problem might lay in the engine management system.

Answer
Donal, it sounds like your original problem is still present. I would take it back to them or to the dealer for diagnosis and present the bill to the garage if they are giving you some sort of warranty. We do not have the M57 diesel engine in the U.S. so I am of little help on the subject.
