BMW Repair: Sunroof panel removal?, torx bolts, torx screws

I need to replace the headliner on a 1997 740iL. The sunroof does not retract enough to access the torx screws that retain the headliner. How do I remove the sunroof panel without having to drop the entire sunroof cassette?

Brian, put the roof in the tilt position and carefully remove the side rubber covers of the sunroof to gain access to the torx bolts that hold the glass in. Mark them before removing and also note sunroof position when in normal closed position in comparison to the the roof line. Remove your torx bolts and pull out glass. No you should be able to access headliner panel from top.
