BMW Repair: e38 Battery flat, locked out, lock cylinder, battery terminals

Question
I have a 1995 e38 730i auto vin.db47448. The battery went flat  and locked me out. My local garage managed to open the boot to fit a new battery, they bypassed a circuit to power the windows to open. I can now get ignition on but will not crank or start. The doors are deadlocked from inside and out, I can only get in through the windows. The garage have tried different scanners on OBD socket but unfortunately will not communicate. I assume the vehicle has locked down into some sort of safe mode. Do you know how I can get the car out of deadlock and get it to start? There is only one key lock on drivers door(blank on passengers side)I have tried turning key with handle halfway as on old e34's but no joy. Any advise would be welcomed!

Answer
Norman, this sounds odd. Remove the battery terminals and touch them together for 30 seconds and reinstall them. Then retry the outside door lock cylinder or the remote on the key. If that doesn't work try pressing the central lock button. Never run into this before.
