Question
Hi, i have a 1999. E46 320i model with automatic A/C. When i turn the ventilation on to legs and in front of me, the air is coming out as i want it. But if i turn the ventilation on windshield it is always blowing really hot air (the temperature is set to 21°C).
Do you know maybe the reason.
Thnx.

Answer
Zlatko, why would you need cold air on the windshield? I believe this is the way the system works but I would have to test a car or two. Try a friends E46 car and see if it does the same thing. I believe it does this for defrosting even though the defrost isn't pressed.

Evan, thanx for your answer, i didn't found any other similar bmw because automatic A/C is not common here, but i have a new problem also.
Now when i turn the ventilation to leg compartment it is blowing only warm air, when i put the temp. down to 16°C, and fan is working on maximum speed, there is a little amount of air coming out on legs compartment, and it is not cold. When i turn on defrosting the temp. of the air is slightly lower but the intensity of blowing is the same (fan is on maximum).
I've checked the fluid levels and everything is OK, i don't have any other problems, only this. Is there some temp. sensor that is controlling the temp.?? Or something that is opening the flap in pipes for blowing air on compartment??

Thnx for your answer.
-----Answer-----
Zlatko, make sure you are turning the colored thumbwheel between the two center vents when requesting a desired temp and blower speed. E46's are known to have faulty Final stage resistor's that control the blower speeds that will vary the blower speed on it's own when it fails.

Answer
Zlatko, the final stage has nothing to do with temperature only fan speed. I had a complete walk through of E46 final stage resistor replacement back around 8/24/06 to a guy named Doug. Look it up in the archive for instructions. U.S. car it is in the passenger footwell. Euro might be different.
