BMW Repair: 2001 318Ci (UK) Heater duct, torx screw, air vent

Question
hi, i have removed the air vent, but there dont seem to be nothing that looks like a FSU there.. here is a pic of what i'v found behind the air vent.  http://pics-82.hi5.com/userpics/082/307/307768082.img.jpg
i have also slightly taken off that motor thing, which i think is a stepper motor (by taking out the torx screw, and the thing just slides out) and there dont seem to be anything behind there either (i think anyway, didnt actually pull it out all)...
somebody has told me that sometimes the FSU is on the driver side?
would that be the case in my car?
i have a 2001 318Ci, UK model (right hand drive)

-----Question-----
hi, i have a 2001 318Ci, UK model, VIN: JP72233.  I need to remove the Black plastic heater duct, in order to get to the Final stage resistor.  How exactly do i take this heater duct out? i beleave i just need to unclip it from somewhere.  i have removed the glove compartment and the bit behind that.  do i need to take the stereo out in order to unclip the duct? bcos i cannot seem to see the clips from the glove compartment area.  is there anything i need to be aware of that i may break or something while taking the duct off?? thanks

Tej, the white blend door clip that moves when you move the temperature thumbwheel, be careful not to break this when pulling the vent out. I pull the upholstery piece back until you hear a loud plastic cracking sound. You don't damage anything seen or important. Just make sure your vent goes back into the heater box duct and attaches to the floor vent outlet aswell. You don't need to remove the radio. No clips just a formed fitting of plastic components. Good question.

Answer
Tej, sorry but I just looked at repair instruction for european models and I found out that the FSU is in a completely different place that the U.S. cars. According to the manual the FSU is right next to the blower motor in the blower motor housing. So remove the microfilter in the engine compartment and the microfilter housing. Next remove the heater bulkhead behind the microfilter housing. Expose the rounded heater housing and remove the cover to expose the blower motor and the final stage unit with connector. The instructions are for the M43TU engine in the E46 Euro Sedan. I don't know if these are correct because I've never touched a European E46 car. Sorry about the mix up.
