BMW Repair: 1996 Z-3 BMW Fuel Gauge, z 3 bmw, ohm meter

Question
I am having similar problems as Brent (10-26-2006) had.  Bought car in November 2006 with 45000 miles.  Fuel level sender failed in December.  A reputable local shop replaced the combination fuel pump/level sender.  Shortly thereafter, the sender unit came off the fuel pump, and the sender would not work after that.  The shop replaced it again after pinning the sender unit to the assembly in a very ingenous way so it could not fall off.  Driving home from the shop the unit failed again, with the circuit being open again.  Something's strange about this.  Help?

Answer
James, I don't know about the sender falling off of the pump repeatedly. I have never had that happen. Just make sure the sender/pump is installed properly in the tank. The sender should read between 520-480ohms when full and 16-24ohms when empty. Make sure the digital ohm meter is in the Kilo Ohm range when testing. Don't know what else to tell you.
